Initiative 1183: Undecided

I can usually read your election recommendations and make my own decision based on the merits you list, but your recommendation of a "yes" vote on Initiative 1183 puzzles me.

Specifically, you mentioned all of the negative ads regarding the initiative. Admittedly, I haven't watched every minute of local TV, but I have paid attention to what shows up in the Herald and in my mailbox. The only negative thing I have seen regarding I-1183 is in the voter's pamphlet.

So ALL of the money is behind I-1183, and that really puzzles me.

What are they expecting to gain? If they are going to make tons of money, it has to come from somewhere. Will we see higher liquor prices? Will we consume more liquor? Or will we move liquor income from the state treasury to corporate profits, requiring higher taxes to offset it? None of those things are good.

I haven't decided on I-1183 yet, but Costco is clearly in my doghouse. I am incensed that they dropped millions into the campaign and then raised my membership dues to help cover the cost.

I don't like hearing just one side of an issue. And I really don't like being gouged to pay for it.
