First, the asterisk. Technically, there will be a final coaches poll after state this coming Saturday. However, the poll will mimic the team standings from the various state meet, and I hardly call that "voting."
Also, wanted to give some pub to a couple of Prosser runners who qualified for state at the CWAC/GNL regional in Spokane. Junior Kolby Childers is returning to state after placing eighth in the girls race. She finished 81st at state last year but is running about a minute faster this season.
Mustangs teammate Bradley Buttars finished 16th in the boys race to earn a state spot, his first ticket to running's big dance.
The results of the meet can be found at Athletic.net. Also, John Crawford's website is a great resource for checking out all the runners coming to state.
Now to the penultimate coaches polls, which include only teams that qualified for state -- sorry Spokane 3A teams that are among the best in the state but didn't get one of the GSL's two regional berths.
Of local interest, the Kamiakin boys are No. 2 in the 3A poll after finishing just two points behind eight-time regional champion and five-time defending state champ North Central. The Braves girls are No. 4 in their poll after winning regionals, behind state favorite Glacier Peak, Camsa and Peninsula.
Defending B champ Tri-Cities Prep has led wire-to-wire in the boys poll. Take note: Waitsburg-Prescott finally dropped out of the top 10. Maintaining a spot in the poll was no small feat for the Cardinals, since they did actually field a complete team this season. The TC Prep girls were listed among the "others" in the B poll.
Also, Royal got some love among the "others" in the 1A boys poll.
