A Whitman College student was arrested Thursday for allegedly producing college identification cards to get access to secure areas of the school.
Simon Van Neste, 20, was booked into the Walla Walla County jail on suspicion of second-degree identity theft and second-degree burglary.
Walla Walla police began investigating the case after Whitman College security received an alert last week that an unauthorized card from a staff member's ID card was used to try to get entry to a part of the college, said Officer Tim Bennett.
Van Neste was found with a Whitman student ID card with his picture, but containing the ID number of another student, Bennett said.
A magnetic stripe-card reader and 13 additional cards were turned over by Van Neste, he said.
Van Neste reportedly used an instructor's password to get access to all ID numbers of students, faculty and staff.
One student's stolen identity was used to buy food on campus, Bennett said. The police department's computer forensics investigator is working on the case.
