Attempted murder charges have been filed against a Pasco man accused of beating and holding his girlfriend against her will.

Larry Dean Buck, 40, was arrested in January and faced a Nov. 2 trial in Franklin County Superior Court for second-degree assault and unlawful imprisonment.

Over Buck's objections, defense attorney Matt Rutt, asked for the trial to be continued to Nov. 30.

"I've been here 287 days," Buck said this week.

Franklin County jail's online records show Buck has been in custody since Jan. 27, or 272 days.

Buck, who has previously said in court that he is innocent of the allegations, said his speedy trial rights have been violated because his trial date keeps getting changed.

Judge Robert Swisher, however, found there was good cause to continue the trial to the end of November.

Deputy Prosecutor Frank Jenny then amended the charges against Buck to second-degree attempted murder, unlawful imprisonment and second-degree assault, with the allegation that a deadly weapon was involved.

"In our offer letter, we said this would be added if the offer was not accepted," Jenny told Judge Robert Swisher.

Buck, who had sat down because he wasn't happy with Swisher's decision, got back up and said he wanted another attorney.

"He is not representing me," Buck said. "I want to fire him today."

"Mr. Buck, I don't think you hired him," Swisher replied.

Rutt was appointed to represent Buck after he was arrested by Pasco police in January.

Officers got a call about a hysterical woman asking for help and when they got to the Shopping Spot Mini Mart, 128 S. 28th, they found the 45-year-old woman shaking and crying and trying to catch her breath.

The woman, later determined to be Buck's girlfriend, had bruising on her face and chest, a cut on the bridge of her nose and cuts on her left ankle, documents said. Officers said she had "head-to-toe" bruising, documents said.

She said she was held against her will by Buck at the Sage N Sun Motel and inside a motor home at 2714 W. Hopkins St., documents said.

She told officers that Buck beat her and attempted to drown her, documents said. The woman ran to the store for help after she was able to escape.
