Southridge soccer remains undefeated

KENNEWICK -- Southridge's Brooke Benecke scored in the 39th minute and the Suns eclipsed Kamiakin 4-2 in the shootout to earn a 2-1 victory in a CBBN 3A game at Kamiakin.

"Both teams played well," Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said. "It was a very even game."

The victory gives the Suns an undefeated run through the CBBN and a bye in the district tournament. Kamiakin, which finished second in league, will host the winner of Eastmont-Hanford on Saturday.

While the Suns earned the victory, senior Heather Johnson was denied her 100th career goal.

The Rams won a CBBN 3A road match to lock up the No. 3 seed in the district tournament.

Haille Heid collected a hat trick in the second half of Hanford's CBBN 3A home victory over Eastmont.

"It was a good game for us," Hanford assistant coach Glen Ledgerwood said. "It was a big night for the seniors, everybody who scored was a senior."

And it was a big win in another way, too, as it earned the Falcons the right to remain home for its district play-in match Thursday against the Wildcats.

Karla Osorio scored in the third minute on an Ana Lugo assist and goalkeeper Jessica Cardenas swooped into the fray with 12 assists as Sunnyside blanked host Kennewick in a CBBN 3A game.

"It was a real tight game, back and forth," Lions coach Matt Kessie said. "We had our options, got some shots off, but couldn't put them in the net. A real tight game, on both sides."

Kennewick's Karissa Shiflet had 14 saves against 15 shots-on-goal by Sunnyside.

"Chiawana came at us really hard tonight," Bombers coach Sara Elfering said. "We had to come from behind. The girls really gutted it out and played a good game to finish off the regular season here."

Richland will host Moses Lake at 1 p.m. Saturday in a game that will decide the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds to regionals.
