The state Department of Health on Tuesday announced it had reduced some of the probation requirements for a Richland neurologist alleged to have had a sexual relationship with a patient.

Dr. Clarence Washington's license has been under probation since 2010 based on allegations of unprofessional conduct made the previous year, state documents said.

Part of Washington's probation required him to undergo psychotherapy weekly for a year, then twice monthly for another year.

A report submitted to the Medical Quality Assurance Commission by Washington's therapist said the neurologist has made progress in therapy and recommended reducing the number of sessions.

Washington's license remains under probation indefinitely. Requirements that he have a chaperone when examining female patients and prohibiting him from visiting female patients' homes remain in place.
