School clubs

As a graduate of Southridge High School, I realize the importance of clubs within the social aspects of high school. However, with the downturned economy, schools are under pressure, facing cutbacks. In these hard times, it's vital that we don't let the education of the future generations suffer.

I see some relief in the recent implication of Kennewick School District policy 3560. The new regulations that are limiting the rights and powers of clubs are said to not only hurt the students but also the community. I believe that this policy rather creates an opportunity for students to get more involved and help the community more than ever before. Students should consider the options of becoming a part of clubs and organizations within the Tri-Cities. This would improve students sense of involvement within the community and give students a better idea of how to volunteer and help in a real-world environment, outside of school.

The Kennewick School Board has set a new standard for clubs, and with it there is cause for positive change if considered in a different light. The focus of schools should be academics, and I agree that clubs, though beneficial, aren't necessarily always needed.
