KENNEWICK -- Ramon Delamora and his wife Oyuki Reyes will have their hands full with baby duties when they head home from the hospital today.

Reyes, 29, gave birth to triplets Tuesday at Kennewick General Hospital. Triplets are not a common occurrence at KGH, said Liz Syer, a hospital spokeswoman.

The babies were full term, and Reyes did not take any fertility drugs prior to conception, said Delamora, 36.

And that is a rarity, Syer said.

"The chances of a mom having triplets if on fertility drugs is one in 8,000 births," she said. "This mom was not on fertility drugs so the rarity of this happening is magnified 20 times."

"That just doesn't happen very often," agreed Dr. Victor Brooks, the doctor who delivered the babies by Caesarean section.

The triplets -- sons Max and Sebastian and daughter Renata -- weighed in at a little more than five pounds each, all healthy and adorable, the Pasco couple said.

The new babies join the couple's four other children, one of whom knew Reyes was pregnant before she did.

"Emmanuel, he's 9, pointed to my stomach one day and said, 'Mommy, baby in the belly?' But I told him no," Reyes said. "A week later, I found out he was right."

But she wasn't expecting three babies.

"When I first told (Reyes) she was having triplets, she was in disbelief," said Dr. Brooks.

Brooks also said it's "a minor miracle" Reyes did so well throughout her pregnancy. "She had no swelling in her legs and that's rare for carrying three babies," he said.

Mom and babies will be going home today, and her mother-in-law and 16-year-old stepdaughter will be helping out for a while, Reyes said.

In the meantime, Delamora may have to work longer and harder to feed his growing family. He owns RD Trucking in Pasco.

"When we first heard we were having triplets, we saw stars, like someone hit us too hard in the head," Delamora chuckled. "But we couldn't be happier. They are beautiful."

And how does Delamora feel about the overwhelming cost of having the triplets start elementary, high school and college all at the same time?

"I don't even want to think about that right now," he said with a hearty laugh.
