Kennewick police are searching for a man who robbed the Sonic Drive-In shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday.

The suspect reportedly told Sonic workers that he had a weapon and then drove away from the restaurant at 8600 W. Gage Blvd. with some money, though police didn’t know how much.

Police described the car as a red Mitsubishi and weren’t sure if more than one person was in the car.

Richland police pulled over a car on the eastbound twin bridges on Interstate 182 matching the description shortly after the robbery but determined it wasn’t involved in the crime, according to Kennewick police.

Several police cars stopped the car which caused traffic backups to George Washington Way.
