Two Umatilla teens were arrested in connection with the beating death of a 27-year-old Irrigon man last night, officials said.

Theodore Mendoza and Kevin Melendez, both 17, were booked this morning by Umatilla police on suspicion of first-degree manslaughter.

They're accused of beating Mario Calvillo Ramirez, 27, near the Crossroads Truck Stop in Umatilla, said Umatilla County District Attorney Daniel Primus.

A third man, Andres Carillo, is being sought as person of interest.

Police records show a 911 caller at a truck stop police Tuesday night reported a boy was lying in the middle of the street and several young men had run toward the truck-stop restaurant, the Associated Press said.

Umatilla police officers arrived shortly after the assault was reported at 8:53 p.m. Ramirez was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital where he later died.

The assault was reportedly gang-related.

The Umatilla/Morrow Major Crime Team has been activated to investigate the crime. Investigators are from the Oregon State Police, Hermiston Police Department, Pendleton Police Department, Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and the DA’s office.
