A search of a home east of Kennewick for two men wanted on warrants ended in the arrest of three suspects on drug charges and a fourth on a warrant, authorities said.

The two men initially sought by Benton County sheriff's deputies were not found at the home at 210605 E. Perkins Road, said Deputy Joe Lusignan.

Deputies, however, did arrest the property owner, Daniel R. Hansford, 50, for possessing stolen property, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possessing meth.

Hansford has a medical marijuana card, but deputies found 12 pounds of processed marijuana and several plants yet to be harvested, Lusignan said.

Deputies seized all but 1.5 pounds of marijuana, which state law allows medical marijuana users to possess.

During the search, 14 grams of methamphetamine, a large quantity of prescription drugs, including hydrocodone and morphine, and a stolen four-wheeler, also were found, Lusignan said.

Hansford was booked into the Benton County jail, along with Delinda Tannahill, 37, of Benton City, and Richard Daniel Clark, 48, of West Richland, on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine.

Edward Bolt also was arrested on an outstanding warrant, and a warrant was issued for Rickki Lynn Ralston, 37, who is wanted for possessing methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Ralston was at the home when deputies arrived to search it, but was allowed to leave, Lusignan said. Deputies later found drugs in the area where Ralston had been staying, he said.

Man shot dead after reportedly trying to break into residence

A 30-year-old Kennewick man was killed Sunday when he was shot by the resident at a home he allegedly was breaking into, authorities said.

Grant County Undersheriff Dave Ponozzo identified the alleged burglar Tuesday as Joshua Montano.

Sheriff's officials said Montano was from Moses Lake, but a death notice submitted to the Herald said Montano was a lifelong Kennewick resident who worked in construction.

Montano reportedly was shot by Timothy Mandelas around 9 p.m. Sunday at 4301 Ottmar Road N.E. #5, Ponozzo said. He died at a Spokane hospital.

Two other suspected burglars still are being sought.

The burglars apparently were trying to steal marijuana from Mandelas, who is a medical marijuana user, Ponozzo said.

Ponozzo said Mandelas said he used a .45-caliber pistol to shot Montano.

Mandelas has not been charged with any crime related to the shooting, but was arrested and booked into the Grant County jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He is facing a second firearm charge, after investigators found a second gun, inside his home, Ponozzo said.

Mandelas also is being held on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver because he had more than 2 pounds of processed pot, and reportedly told investigators he sold it to other medical marijuana card holders.

Grandview teens sought for spray-painting graffiti

Two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old from Grandview are being sought by Benton County gang team detectives for spray-painting gang graffiti on a highway overpass near Prosser.

The tagging was done on the Interstate 82 overpass at King Tull Road and was linked to a street gang in the Lower Valley, said sheriff's Deputy Joe Lusignan.

Gang detectives worked with Grandview police to identify the teens.

Grandview police then searched the teens' homes and found evidence to get warrants for their arrests, Lusignan said.

The teens are wanted for second-degree malicious mischief and criminal conspiracy.

2 men injured in rollover on Highway 224 in Benton City

A single-vehicle rollover on Highway 224 in Benton City sent one man to the hospital Tuesday, the Washington State Patrol said.

The wreck occurred at 11:50 a.m., when a 2007 Ford Econoline van went off the road, troopers said.

Kenneth Stanford, 25, of Benton City, overcorrected and caused the van to roll over, before it landed on its wheels blocking the highway, troopers said.

Stanford suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, but his passenger, Gary Jennings, 20, of Kennewick, was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland where he was treated and later released.
