SEATTLE -- Cam Christian, a senior on the Seattle University baseball team, died early Sunday morning after being involved in a car accident on Highway 2 near Priest River, Idaho.

Christian, 22, transferred to Seattle U. in the fall of 2010 from Spokane Falls Community College and made 14 appearances on the mound for the Redhawks during the 2011 season, including one start. The Auburn native also appeared in seven other games as a pinch hitter or position player. He was majoring in history.

According to news reports, Christian was driving westbound when police say he evasively steered off the road for an unknown reason. He reportedly drove through the eastbound lane and off the road, at which point his car overturned. Police say alcohol was not a factor, and Christian was wearing a seatbelt.

Head coach Donny Harrel informed the team of Christian's passing Sunday morning. A moment of silence in remembrance of Christian was held before the Sunday afternoon men's soccer match between Seattle University and Sacramento State at Championship Field.

Seattle University Campus Ministry is planning a memorial service to be held on campus at the Chapel of St. Ignatius in the near future.
