PASCO -- A 19-year-old Pasco man who was afraid of being stopped on an unregistered motorcycle was sentenced to a month in jail for leading police on a chase at speeds exceeding 100 mph.

Justin Tuter pleaded guilty Tuesday in Franklin County Superior Court to attempting to elude police. Prosecutors asked for a 50-day jail sentence, but Judge Cameron Mitchell said a middle-range sentence was appropriate.

He did, however, say it was "a bad choice and dangerous activity." Tuter can do the time on work release. Tuter admitted it was a dumb choice.

"I should have just stopped that night and received a ticket," he said. "It won't happen again."

Tuter was arrested June 2 after a Washington State Patrol trooper clocked him going 80 mph on Highway 240, which has a 60 mph limit, documents said.

The trooper said he followed Tuter onto Interstate 182 into Pasco going 80 mph and the motorcyclist was pulling away from him.

Tuter was estimated to be driving more than 100 mph as he exited onto Road 100 and passed several cars on the right and in the center lane, documents said.

He sped down Argent Road, and the trooper lost sight of him, but a witness reported seeing a motorcycle go into Chiawana Park.

A Franklin County sheriff's deputy found a motorcycle dumped by the garbage cans and later saw Tuter walk out of the park.

After being arrested, Tuter told the trooper he had the motorcycle for about six months but didn't have the money to register it in his name.

He said he ran because he "wasn't sure what would happen."
