It's pretty impressive, the success that Steve Graff has had running the ball.

And by that I mean his running backs, of course. He had a lot of amazing talent at tailback over the years — both at Pasco and Chiawana.

But I think what happened this weekend is a testament to the coaching staff under Graff — and they're basically the same guys who have been with him since his Pasco days.

First off, they lose Jordan Downing, the Riverhawks all-state running back, and taking over for him is Terro Bell, who is listed at 5-foot-7, 140 pounds. I wondered if he could handle the amount of abuse he might take as a first-team running back in the CBBN.

I got my answer Friday night as Chiawana destroyed Davis 28-0. You know what it is?

What abuse?

Running behind that offensive line of his, it seemed like he was barely touched all night. To Davis' credit, they did lay a couple of good licks on him, but he carried the ball 30 times for 176 yards.

Graff has been lamenting for a while about all the sophomores in his lineup, but by now you can hardly tell. They're pure students of that beautiful zone blocking scheme, and they're only going to get better.

That's on the coaches, too, because with any successful team you have to get players to buy into the system before you have success on the field.

And believe me, they have total faith in that coaching staff.
