Southridge volleyball sweeps into second

RICHLAND -- Whenever the Southridge volleyball team needed a jolt offensively Thursday night, Shelby Warner provided it.

Warner finished with a season-high 18 kills as the Suns defeated Hanford 25-18, 25-20, 25-15 in a CBBN 3A road match. With the victory, Southridge moved into a second-place tie with Hanford.

Southridge coach John Lengphounpraseut praised Warner, calling her "the rock" of the Suns.

"She has been very consistent this year," Lengphounpraseut said. "She struggled a little bit against Kennewick (on Tuesday), but she had 18 kills out of 27 attempts tonight and only had two hitting errors.

"She's been hitting over .500. She's one of the best percentage hitters I've ever coached in high school."

Isabella Midili contributed 13 digs, while Kylie Fraga finished with 35 assists for the Suns.

Suzi Davison led the Falcons with 17 kills, but they couldn't catch the Suns, who must win their next two matches to claim outright the CBBN 3A's second seed to the district tournament.

Morgan McDowell had 17 kills and West Valley remained unbeaten in CBBN 3A play at 12-0 with a road win over Kennewick.

"They have a really tough serve, and we struggled with our serve receive," Kennewick coach Julie Maciboba said. "We dug well and had some decent blocks."

Meghan McIntyre led the Lions with seven kills and 10 digs, while Torie Szendre added five kills and four blocks.

Alexis Scott had three aces and was perfect 11 times in a row as she went 30-for-30 from the service line to help guide Kamiakin to a CBBN 3A road win over Eastmont.

The Riverhawks' perfect league season ended on the road.

Chiawana (10-1) led 19-14 in the second set, only to have Wenatchee score the final 11 points for the win. In the third set, Wenatchee scored the final three points to win.

"We had a slow start," Chiawana coach Jim Steach said. "Wenatchee played well, and we didn't finish our opportunities."

Sadie Nielsen had 20 kills and Kenzie Fancher popped up with 40 assists, and although host Moses Lake came out strong with wins in the first and second sets, Eisenhower rallied for the remainder and a CBBN 4A road win.

Chantelle Zamora's 10 kills and 11 digs led the Blue Devils to a CBBN 4A road sweep.

Taylor Hall's 23 kills and eight digs led the Greyhounds (5-1) to a CWAC road sweep.

Makinsi Garoutte's five blocks and four kills led Prosser (2-4).

The Eagles' serving was spot-on, as Michelle Schultz, Kennidi Whitby and Whitney Jones were 7-of-7. Paxton Carlisle finished 12-of-14 with six aces.

Amber McCoy and Beth Conley combined for five blocks for River View, while Tayla Wallace and Rachel Hull each went 9-of-9 from the service line.
