Athletes of the Week for October 13, 2011

October 13, 2011

The Mid-Columbia Athletes of the Week for October 13, 2011.

Boys

Israel Manzo, Senior, Sunnyside

Manzo showed his versatility last week, scoring touchdowns four different ways, adding two field goals and kicking two extra points.

Not a bad game, espcially when it helped net the Grizzlies their first CBBN 3A victory of the season.

“They put me in some new positions and tried me out in some different spots,” he said. “We had a good mindset. We are a good team.”

Manzo scored on a 28-yard pass reception, a 32-yard interception return, a 48-yard run and a 77-yard punt return.

He also booted field goals from 30 and 28 yards, racking up 32 points single-handedly in the 40-16 victory against Pasco.

While his accomplishments on the field are worth applauding, finishing his senior year would be reason to cheer even louder for Manzo.

“I’ll be the first one to graduate out of my family,” he said. “Hopefully, I’ll be the first to graduate high school and then graduate college.”

Girls

Kristyn Bohlander, Senior, Kamiakin

Bohlander has had hat tricks in her career, but she’d never done as well as she did Saturday against Pasco.

The left winger scored four goals in a 6-0 win over the Bulldogs and added two assists in an 8-0 win against Kennewick.

Not a bad week, as she now has eight goals and four assists on the season.

“That was pretty cool,” she said. “I think it was lucky. We worked on shooting at practice like crazy on Friday, so obviously it worked. I guess.”

Bohlander and the Braves have had a lot working this season, as they are in second place in CBBN 3A.

“I think all of us just want to make it as far as we can,” she said. “We all have the same mindset and we are working really hard.”
