* 1998 -- Richland sophomore Chrissy Pohjola swam a state-qualifying time of 2 minutes, 4.28 seconds to win the 200-yard freestyle as the Bombers held off Hanford and Kamiakin to win the 2nd Annual Tri-City Swimming Championships at Serier Pool in Kennewick.

* 1983 -- Sunnyside High School announced it would forfeit its home game against Selah as a result of a teachers strike at the school. State rules required a team to have at least two practice days before to a game, but the Grizzlies had not worked out since the previous Thursday.

* 1970 -- Keith Metully picked off a fumble on the enemy's 10-yard line and ran it in for the only touchdown of the game to give the Panthers a 6-0 victory over the Bears in Kennewick Grid Kids football action.
