A former Richland day care worker accused of sexually assaulting a young boy in his care remains jailed on $100,000 bail.

Lucas Anthony Miller pleaded innocent Tuesday in Benton County Superior Court to one count of first-degree child rape. His trial is set for Nov. 28.

While waiting for his case to be called, the 21-year-old Kennewick man sat in the jury box with his head down -- sometimes with his eyes closed -- as his family watched from the front row of the courtroom.

Miller is expected back in court Thursday for a bail hearing. Defense attorney Gary Metro was appointed to represent him.

He's been in the Benton County jail since his Oct. 5 arrest by Richland police.

He is accused of sexually abusing a toddler at Kids World Daycare, where he worked from April to August.

According to court documents, a boy told his parents that his day care teacher pinched his nipple and twisted it. It caused a bruise that stayed for about two weeks.

Later, the boy also disclosed other inappropriate touching by Miller, documents said.

The alleged sexual assault was reported to Kids World by the boy's parents Aug. 31, and Miller was fired Sept. 1.

Kids World staff called state Child Protective Services, who reported it to Richland police.

Miller allegedly told investigators that he had inappropriate contact with two other boys and one girl at the day care, documents said.

Miller previously worked at Children's Garden Montessori Preschool in Richland from November 2008 to August 2009 and as a lifeguard at the Tri-City Court Club in Kennewick from May 2009 to March 2011.

He also was a summer counselor for Campfire USA from 2007-09, police said.
