Irrigation districts throughout the Tri-Cities and the Mid-Columbia will have a dozen board positions up for election in December.
People interested in filing for the positions have until Nov. 7 to present nomination petitions to irrigation district offices. Only districts with more than one candidate in a race will have elections Dec. 13.
State law requires each nomination petition have at least 10 signatures of qualified voters, and prospective candidates must live or own property in the irrigation district where they want to be elected.
Irrigation districts that elect directors by division also require that candidates live in the division in order to be a district director.
Directors of irrigation districts serve three-year terms.
Nomination packets are available at irrigation district offices and on some districts' websites.
Elections are planned in these districts:
-- Kennewick Irrigation District -- Position 3, held by David McKenzie, is available on the five-member board, which is elected at-large. Petitions are due at KID offices, 12 W. Kennewick Ave. Website is www.kid.org.
-- Columbia Irrigation District -- Division 4 position, held by James Gose, and Division 5 position, held by Gary Hutchcraft, are available on the five-member board which is elected by division. Division 4 is from South Oak Street to Haney Road, and Division 5 is from Haney Road to the Columbia River. Petitions are due at district office, 10 E. Kennewick Ave. Website is www. columbiairrigationdistrict.com.
-- Benton Irrigation District -- Positions held by chairman Robert Buoy and Dirk Martin are up for election. The three-member board is elected at-large. Petitions are due at the district office, 47506 N. Highland Drive, Benton City. The website is www.bidwater.org.
-- Badger Mountain Irrigation District -- Position held by Jeff Clark is up for election on the three-member board, which is elected at-large. Petitions are due at the district office, 87525 E. Reata Road, Kennewick.
-- Franklin County Irrigation District -- Positions of Teresa Pegram and Gary Olson are available on the board, which is elected at-large. Petitions due at district office, 4320 Road 111, Pasco.
-- South Columbia Basin Irrigation District -- Division 3 seat held by Richard Conrad is available. Petitions are due at the district office, 1135 E. Hillsboro Road, Pasco.
-- East Columbia Basin Irrigation District -- Division 1 position, held by Donald Osborne, and Division 3 position, held by Bernard Erickson, are available. Division 1 is in Grant County, north of Wheeler Road, and Division 3 includes district land in Lincoln County and land in Adams County north of Providence Road. Petitions are due at the district office, 55 N. Eighth St., Othello.
-- Kiona Irrigation District -- Position held by Randy Bricker is available on the three-member board, which is elected at-large. Petitions due at the district office,
