FEDERAL WAY -- The Richland and Hanford girls swim teams tied for first place with 438 points apiece as the east-side dominated the field in the Mukilteo Invite at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
"Richland was leading going into the last relay," Bombers/Falcons swim coach Kathy Piper said of the tight race. "It made for quite an enjoyable bus ride home, both of them having won today."
Richland's Lisa Bratton dialed up the lone meet record with first-place state-qualifying time of 2 minutes, 5.87 seconds in the 200 IM race.
Also posting SQ times in the 200 IM were Hanford's Melissa Merrill (2nd, 2:15.14) and Prosser's Hailey Rankin (4th, 2:15.82) and the Falcons' Lisa Tixier (6th, 2:16.49).
Other area squads taking bows in the team top 10 were sixth-place Moses Lake (254.5 pts) and tenth-place Southridge (213 pts).
The Suns got strong showings from Danielle Freund, who finished second in the diving event, and Megan O'Leary, who qualified for state in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.12.
