A 17-year-old Pasco boy was jailed Thursday after being found in a stolen car in Kennewick, police said.
The 2000 Nissan Maxima was stolen around 2 a.m. Thursday from the 1700 block of West Seventh Avenue, said Mike Blatman, Kennewick police spokesman.
Around 10:45 p.m., detectives with the Criminal Apprehension Team spotted the stolen car at Seventh Avenue and Highway 395.
The driver pulled into a motel at Second Avenue and drove to the lot behind the motel, Blatman said. When detectives turned on their lights, the driver sped off across the dead-end parking lot, drove over the curb and into the gully and thick brush between the motel and Fourth Avenue.
The driver, later identified as a 17-year-old gang member, dumped the car in the brush and took off running, police said.
Back-up units arrived in the area as the teen came out of the brush and arrested him. He was booked into the juvenile detention center on suspicion of possessing stolen property and attempting to elude police.
