Smartmap Expo set Thursday at TRAC

PASCO -- Advanced manufacturing will be the focus of the Tri-City Development Council's annual Smartmap Expo from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdayat TRAC in Pasco.

There is no charge to attend the manufacturer's exposition or seminars, but registration is required for the seminars.

The event begins with a presentation on the 2011 State of Manufacturing in Washington Report by Impact Washington, a nonprofit. Information on the concerns of manufacturers in the state and their outlook on the economy is expected to be covered.

Other seminars will cover the impact of technology on training, product documentation in the era of the computer cloud and using advanced manufacturing to go from product concept to product commercialization.

Additional seminars will address engaging employees, plastic composite materials and advanced manufacturing and sustainabiity.

The expo is billed as a chance to see the latest technologies and service, locate new suppliers and customers, network and learn about advanced manufacturing.

The Advanced Inspection and Manufacturing Mobile Training Unit, a 53-foot classroom on wheels, will be at the expo and offering 15-minute tours.

Box lunches will be available for purchase, and the expo will run continuously with no breaks for lunch, as in the past.

A tour of TiLite in Pasco, the world's largest titanium wheelchair manufacturer, is planned Wednesday, but is open only to sponsors and exhibitors. An exhibitor reception also is planned Wednesday.
