A 14-year-old Kennewick middle school student is accused of robbing four classmates at gunpoint after school this week.

The teen reportedly confronted four Horse Heaven Hills Middle School students on their way home from school Wednesday, said Kennewick police Sgt. Ken Lattin.

The boy pointed a handgun at the students and robbed one of them of his cellphone, he said. No one was hurt.

The robbery was off campus, Lattin said.

A security officer at the middle school heard one of the kids talking about the incident Thursday morning and saw they were acting agitated, said Lorraine Cooper, Kennewick School District spokeswoman.

He then questioned the students and called police.

Parents of the four victims were notified, and the gun used in the robbery was recovered by police. It belongs to the suspect's father, Lattin said.

The teen was arrested and booked in the juvenile detention center on suspicion of four counts of robbery.

The teen has been emergency expelled from the school, Cooper said. Any additional disciplinary action will be determined once the district's investigation is completed, she said.

2 arrested after allegedly fleeing from Kennewick police after fight

Two Kennewick men were arrested following a fight at a Kennewick apartment complex Thursday afternoon.

Jamie Garcia-Lopez, 21, and Bidal Guizar-Mendoza, 19, were caught by police as they tried to flee the scene, said Kennewick police Sgt. Ken Lattin.

Garcia-Lopez was driving a white Toyota Camry that nearly crashed into an officer's patrol car as he sped away from the Heatherstone Apartments, police said.

He drove through the complex, then stopped and several people inside the car jumped out and ran.

Garcia-Lopez and Guizar-Mendoza were caught a short distance away.

Officers were called to the apartment complex at 3:35 p.m. Thursday after getting a call about a group of about 15 people fighting.

A handgun was found inside the car after police searched it, Lattin said.

Guizar-Mendoza, who is a convicted felon, was arrested and booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Garcia-Lopez was jailed on suspicion of eluding a police officer.

18-year-old accused of molesting girl and boy

An 18-year-old Kennewick man is being held without bail in the Benton County jail for allegedly sexually assaulting a young boy and girl.

Brian Lloyd Haisch appeared in Benton County District Court on Thursday, where a judge found cause to hold him for 72 hours for investigation of first-degree child molestation and attempted first-degree child molestation.

Haisch was arrested by Kennewick police, who began investigating the alleged sex abuse in June. The incidents allegedly happened in August and September 2007.

One victim reported to investigators at Kids Haven that Haisch exposed himself and asked him to touch his penis, court documents said. The boy said he told Haisch, "no."

The second victim said Haisch also exposed himself to her.

Haisch reportedly told investigators that he exposed himself to the girl and got excited by the contact, documents said.

Man shot by Pasco officer in satisfactory condition

A suspect shot by a Pasco police officer this week is improving at a Richland hospital.

Ezequiel Chavez, 19, of Pasco, was in satisfactory condition Kadlec Regional Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said Friday.

Chavez was shot by Officer Chad Pettijohn on Wednesday afternoon when Pettijohn was responding to a call about suspicious people possibly burglarizing a home in the 100 block of West Park Street, police said.

Chavez ran when Pettijohn tried to contact him, then fired a shot at the officer after running into the yard of a home in the 900 block of North 15th Avenue, police said.

Pettijohn returned fire and hit Chavez. Pettijohn was not hurt.
