SAN DIEGO -- Ten unlimited hydroplanes are expected to compete at the Air National Guard's San Diego Bayfair race, which begins today and runs through Sunday.

Qualifying begins at 2:30 p.m. today.

Driver Dave Villwock and the Seattle-based U-96 Spirit of Qatar enter the event with a 1,200-point lead in the high point standings, with a total of 5,825 points.

Jeff Bernard in the U-5 Graham Trucking is second at 4,625 points.

The U-17 Miss Red Dot with Kip Brown and Cal Phipps sharing time in the cockpit this season, is third.

Sunday's final is scheduled for 5 p.m.
