* 1983 -- With the words "Volleyball is not football," Walla Walla County Superior Court Judge James Mitchell cleared the way for 5-foot-6, 225-pound freshman Naomi Rogers to play offensive/defensive tackle for the Touchet Indians' eight-man football squad.

* 1962 -- Wenatchee starter Art Thompson outdueled Tri-Cities' Aubrey Gatewood over 10 innings, leading the Chiefs to a 2-0 victory over the Braves at Sanders Field in the Northwest League championship series. The victory pulled the Chiefs even, 2-all, in the best-of-7 series, and they went on to win the next two games to end the most successful season in the Braves' 13-year history.
