* 1967 -- Richland's Mike Fowler, voted MVP in the all-state baseball classic earlier in Seattle, signed a professional baseball contract with the New York Yankees.
* 1954 -- The Tri-City Braves closed out a dismal baseball season with a split doubleheader against the Salem Senators. Salem edged Tri-City 5-4 in the opener, but the Braves rebounded for a 13-3 victory in the nightcap. The contests were of so little consequence -- the Lewiston Broncs had clinched the second-half championship with a 2-1, 4-1 sweep of the Edmonton Eskimos -- that Senators manager Hugh Luby returned to his home park after Game 1 to ready his players' paychecks.
