Here is a preview of the Touchet Indians for the 2011 Southeast 1B high school football season:

Coach: Gary Dorman (3rd year, 9-10).

Last league title: 2007.

Last playoff berth: 2007.

Home field: Touchet High School.

Returning starters

OE/DB Eric Hines, Sr. (6-0, 170); OL/DL Matt Shute, Sr. (5-8, 185); OL/DL Dan Can, Sr. (5-8, 180); OL/DE Ty Garbe, Sr. (5-9, 190); OE/DE Cori Ochoa, Jr. (5-8, 160); RB/DB Vicente Flores, Jr. (6-0, 175); RB/DL Jose Martinez, Jr. (5-8, 200); QB/LB Octavio Preciado, Jr. (5-10, 160).

Others to watch: RB/DB Ceasar Valasquez, So. (5-6, 140); RB/LB Colton Goble, So. (5-6, 150).

Quick hits

* “This is the third year for me, and we’ve got kids who have been through two previous seasons, so they understand better what we’re trying to get accomplished,” Dorman said.

* Touchet seeks to expand its arsenal this season.

“We were pretty pass happy the last couple of years,” Dorman said. “We need to improve on the running game to show success this year.”

Outlook

Touchet seems to feed off energy created by exposure to unfamiliar elements. Case in point: The Indians had more success last season on the road (4-2) than at home (1-2).

Maybe keeping teams on their toes with a running game will be enough to make Dorman’s third year the charm.
