Idaho WRs in doubt for tonight vs. Bowling Green

MOSCOW, Idaho -- Idaho might be without two starting wide receivers tonight when it opens its 2011 football season at home against Bowling Green.

Preston Davis is out with a foot injury he suffered Sunday, and Justin Veltung is recovering from turf toe, coach Robb Akey said Monday.

Akey said Davis' injury isn't season-ending. "Hopefully it will be sooner than later, but it won't be soon," he said.

As for Veltung, who scored a team-high 10 touchdowns last season, Akey said, "I'm hopeful that we'll have him available for this ball game, but it is probably more hopeful than it is realistic, honestly."

Akey was perturbed that the Davis injury was leaked on an internet message board. The fifth-year coach, who normally is up front about injuries, said he didn't want to tip off Bowling Green about it.

"I didn't think we needed to let everyone know, but people who come to our practice evidently want to let everyone know about those things," he said.
