* 1993 -- Jeff Ripley, owner and general manager of KORD AM 870, announced that the radio station is adding ESPN radio and other sports programming. It will also include a local sports talk show hosted by Jeff Rickard and Matt Price.

* 1987 -- The Tri-City Dust Devils U15 Select team and the Tri-City Spirit U13 Boys Select team each placed second in their divisions at the Bigfoot soccer tournament in Snohomish.

* 1977 -- Columbia Basin College opened its football practices with 17 lettermen and 70 total players turning out for coach Dick Zornes. The Hawks will open Northwest Community College Conference play with a home game against Yakima Valley on Sept. 17.
