Mid-Columbians to aid Hurricane Irene victims

Four disaster services volunteers from Kennewick and Hermiston are leaving in the next two days for North Carolina to help with recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.

The volunteers are being deployed by the Benton-Franklin Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Zonia Quero-Ziada of Kennewick is leaving early this morning for a three-week assignment. Diane Schwanick of Kennewick also is going for three weeks starting Wednesday.

Merlin and Janice Cassins, a husband-and-wife team from Hermiston, will be leaving Wednesday.

Additionally, Jerry Entrop will leave this morning for his first nonlocal disaster assignment to Minot, N.D., said Executive Director Jeanne Jelke.
