A Seattle University student from Yakima is this year's recipient of the Laurie J. Williams Scholarship.

The William O. Douglas Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists awarded $500 to Colleen Fontana of Yakima. She is a 2010 graduate of A.C. Davis High School in Yakima.

Fontana worked for four years as a reporter for the Yakima Herald-Republic's Unleashed teen section and is a reporter at Seattle University's student-run newspaper, The Spectator.

The scholarship's namesake is the executive editor of the Tri-City Herald and a longtime SPJ member.

The William O. Douglas chapter provides resources to professional journalists as well as student members throughout Central Washington and northeastern Oregon.
