The Change-Up can be summed-up in one sentence.

It’s Freaky Friday for adults. And if you want to get a little more specific, adult males.

Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds play best buds. Bateman's Dave is a successful lawyer but isn't sure he's happily married. Reynolds' Mitch never grew up and is an unemployed womanizer. He's sure he's not happy. Each envies the other's life. Fate steps in, up comes a personality swap and exactly the kind of troubles you’d expect when inhabiting someone else’s body.

The Change-Up has lots of guy stuff. Porn, nudity, language, booze, busty babes, drugs and urinating in a fountain. What’s not to like?

The plot maybe?

While the basic premise is worn, parts of The Change-Up work. Jon Lucas and Scott Moore did the script. They’re funny guys who wrote much of the original The Hangover. It has several excellent bits and some of the later scenes are actually close to profound. However, they could have easily scratched a big chunk of the nudity and language, and scaled it down to a PG-13 rating.

But it’s a guy thing. And guys want gratuitous nudity, language and all that. Right?

If — let’s say like Lucas and Moore’s The Hangover — something of substance is stuck in there somewhere, yes. But the film is victim to the limitation of the Freaky Friday premise. Both the kid-oriented movies sucked because there aren’t many places you can go with the plot. And guys, even adding nudity and language, the limits are still there.

R-rated and packed with boobs, babes and beer or plain vanilla PG-13, you still have a film that not many people will find interesting or really want to see.
