Highlights from this morning’s Tri-City Sports Council meeting:
According to Randy Willis, owner of the Columbia Basin Racquet Club, and Richland High School athletic director Mike Edwards, it looks like the Tri-Cities will play host to the WIAA state 4A tennis tournament next May as well as the state 3A tourney. Richland and CBRC would be the sites for 4A, while Kamiakin and Tri-City Court Club would be the usual 3A site.
The Tri-Cities is again being considered for a site on the FLW Bass Fishing Tour.
The Tri-Cities is bidding to be the host for the NWAACC softball championships next May. Portland’s Delta Park has played host to the tournament the past eight years.
By the way, the Tri-Cities will again be the host for the NWAACC men’s and women’s basketball championships in March.
The Tri-Cities Figure Skating Club will hold its Fun in the Sun competition Aug. 13-15 at the Toyota Arena.
There will be two bicycling events on Sept. 10. The Sacagawea Heritage Trail Adventure Challenge runs from 9 a.m. to noon with various checkpoints around the course. And the first Richland River Ride starts at Columbia Point Marina in Richland at 7 a.m. with a 50-mile loop and a 15-mile family fun ride. Proceeds from that race go to the Mike Utley Foundation.
Columbia Basin College will hold its third annual Foundation golf tournament Sept. 16 at Horn Rapids Golf Course in Richland. The tournament helps support the men’s and women’s golf programs. There will be shotgun starts at both 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
