* 1978 -- Uptown Tavern topped the Tri-City Businessmen 3-2 in the championship of the District 3 fastpitch softball tournament. Uptown scored the winning run when Dave Muller's two-out bunt in the sixth turned into a three-base error, and he comes home on a wild pitch. It was about the only miscue for Businessmen pitcher Ray Chase. Ed Potoshnik got the win for Uptown.

* 1972 -- The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced it would begin state playoffs for football and baseball starting in the 1973-74 school year. Statewide polling showed that more than half the league's were in favor of a playoff -- rather than media polls -- determining the state champion.
