2 Tri-City airports given $12M for improvements

Two Tri-City airports are among the 26 public airports in the state that will receive nearly $12 million in federal, state and local money for airport maintenance and improvements.

Included in the awards is more than $1.1 million in the first round of state Airport Aid grants for the 2011-13 biennium.

Port of Kennewick will receive $140,500 in state money for Vista Field, meant to pay for taxiway and apron pavement maintenance, including crack sealing, seal coating and re-painting markings.

Port of Benton will receive $2,500 in state money and $94,995 in federal funding for the design engineering to move taxiway B and the circle area hanger taxi lanes at the Richland Airport.

The state Department of Transportation expects to award the next round of grants next spring.
