Bits and pieces

Came into Columbia Park at 8:45 a.m. today from the east end. Normally there is a line of at least five or six cars at the entrance, but there was no one.

It might be because there are no unlimited races scheduled until 1:50 p.m.

Those in the media trailer were expecting things to pick up around 11:30 a.m., when the two-hour air show is set to begin.

In most years past, the first unlimited race of the day starts at 11:30 a.m. and the air show is interspersed throughout the day.

This year, however, the air show is boxed completely into a 2-hour package, from 11:30 to 1:30.

So that pushes racing back into the afternoon. It also makes a tighter turnaround for race teams from the 2A-2B-2C to 3A-3B.

Oberto founder Art Oberto is walking up and down the pits, handing out jerky and pepperoni sticks. ... With the addition of the 2C heat, today's final has been pushed back 20 minutes to 4:50 p.m.
