* 1988 -- Clint Didier's long journey into free agency ended this week when the tight end agreed to a one-year Washington Redskins contract, with no-option year. Didier, a former player at Columbia Basin College, was so excited with the deal he predicted, "I guarantee I won't pull my hamstring," in reference to the injury that set him back early the previous season.

* 1987 -- In the roundup: Tom White, Sunnyside Christian's state champion sprinter, recently captured first place in the 100 meters in an international track and field meet in the Soviet Union.

* 1968 -- A Mira Slovak Trophy race was added as a semi-feature to the third running of the Tri-City Atomic Cup unlimited hydroplanes. Slovak was scheduled to drive the Harrah's Club unlimited hydroplane but was injured two months previously in a plane crash at the end of a trans-oceanic flight from Germany to Los Angeles.
