WALLA WALLA -- The Umatilla National Forest's Jubilee Lake Campground still needs a volunteer host to oversee the 53-site facility from July through mid-September.

A single person or couple who can provide their own camper will be stationed at a campground as a camp host to assist campers and day-use visitors, said Jeff Bloom, recreation specialist for the Walla Walla Ranger District.

In addition to being a 24-hour presence on the campground, hosts are expected to visit with campers, clean and maintain restrooms, restock supplies, clean up after messy campers and perform other duties.

Jubilee Lake is the largest and most developed campground on the Umatilla National Forest. It offers campsites, four picnic areas and a 2.8-mile hiking trail around the lake.

The campground, 12 miles northeast of Tollgate, Ore., typically is open from early July through mid-October.

Bloom said the best hosts are friendly, flexible and responsible. They often are retired couples who enjoy spending the summer in a beautiful lake setting.

Applicants should contact Bloom at the district office, 1415 Rose in Walla Walla or call 509-522-6290.

A criminal background check may be required.

Although the host program is a volunteer program, a food allowance is offered and hosts will be given a mileage allowance for personal vehicle use within the campground.
