* 1987 -- Ken Bradley of Pasco won the Winston 50 street stocks main event, his second main event victory in two weeks, at Tri-City Raceways. Tom McDowell of Kennewick was second followed by Brent Gerry, also of Kennewick.

* 1977 -- Spokane's Kim Hubbart, standout Columbia Basin College golfer the past two years, fired an even-par 71 to share the first-round qualifying lead at the U.S. Public Links Golf Tournament in Milwaukee.

* 1966 -- Everett veteran driver Bob Miller launched the Miss Tri-Cities unlimited hydroplane near the Kennewick-Pasco bridge but was unable to get it started to the distress of thousands of Tri-Citians who had lined the banks to get a glimpse of the huge hydro in trial-run action. Miller said the boat wouldn't start because the tanks had been filled with the wrong kind of fuel -- pure alcohol.
