* 1981 -- The Tri-City Merchants girls basketball team stayed alive in the AAU U18 tournament with an 82-53 victory over Solaris Heating of Virginia. Sherry Thesenvitz had 16 points, Heidi Vogel 14 and Doris Deden 12 to lead the Merchants.

* 1959 -- John Hoover of Kennewick was elected president of the Kennewick Softball Association. Because of confusion over initial scheduling, the Tri-City Herald team forfeited its first game against the Kennewick Jaycees following the election.

* 1954 -- Dick Vogel pitched a two-hitter in leading VFW past Columbia Oil 4-0 in the Richland Metro Softball League. Also, Wes Leichty threw a one-hitter as the Y Merchants defeated the Tri-City Herald 8-1.
