* 1987 -- Mabton High graduate and New York Mets pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre provided the authors of The All-Star's All-Star Baseball Book, Nick Acocella and Donald Dewey, with this list of all-stars: C- Elston Howard; 1B-Keith Hernandez; 2B-Bobby Richardson; 3B-Brooks Robinson; SS-Ozzie Smith; OF-Carl Yastrzemski, Mickey Mantle and Frank Howard; RHP-Bob Gibson; LHP-Whitey Ford. Stottlemyre, Gary Staggers reported, played with or against all of those players except Smith and Hernandez.

* 1980 -- Pasco's Bruce Kison was the starting pitcher for the California Angels in a 9-7, 11-inning loss to the New York Yankees.

* 1979 -- Richland's Archie Peale, 75, shot a 73 on the par-72 Sham-Na-Pum golf course. Peale began golfing at age 66.
