* 1986 -- Connell's Billy Walker signed a contract with the Milwaukee Brewers at his home. The next day, Walker was scheduled to report to the Brewers' Helena (Mont.) entry in the Pioneer (Rookie) League. Walker, a first baseman who received interest from Eastern Washington, Spokane Falls Community College and Columbia Basin College, was selected in the 14th round of the June 2 free-agent amateur draft. He hit .596 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs for Connell in 1986.

* 1970 -- Behind a three-hit performance from Phil Jones, the Richland Merchants defeated the Walla Walla Mavericks 10-4 in their semipro baseball opener. Bill Hedges and Mike Murray each had an RBI double.
