Barbara and Hayden Smith of Richland celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on St. Patrick's Day, March 17.
They both grew up in Southern California and met at University High School in West Los Angeles. They eloped to Yuma, Ariz., in 1951.
Barbara had a hobby farm and raised horses, cattle, goats and alfalfa before retiring to quilting.
Hayden worked for Douglas/McDonnell Douglas for 27 years. They moved from New Mexico to the Tri-Cities in 1977 where he worked for the Department of Energy for 18 years before retiring in 1994. He has served as an elder for the Richland Church of Christ for over 30 years.
They have four children, Craig (Denise) Smith of Salt Lake City; Scott (Lisa) Smith of Alaska; Teresa (Craig) Smith-Dixon of LaGrande, Ore.; and the late Linda Smith.
They have 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
