Joan and Donald Sayler celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary May 25.
They both grew up on the South Hill in Spokane. Their marriage ceremony in 1951 was in the garden at the home of the bride's parents.
Don began his career with Pacific Northwest Bell in Spokane and retired in management for AT&T in Seattle 30 years later. He gave years of volunteer service in the Telephone Company Pioneers and also with the Boy Scouts of America. As a scoutmaster he received the Silver Beaver award and was recently commemorated on a plaque on Spokane's bronze monument to the Boy Scouts, "Footsteps to the Future."
Joan worked as an executive secretary for Spokane firms and retired working for the Presbyterian Synod based in Everett.
Don and Joan have lived in Kennewick for nearly 10 years and also have a home in Mesa, Ariz. They are co-presidents of the Tri-Cities Rose Society, active members of the Mid-Columbia Koi & Pond Club and Southside Church in Richland.
They have three children, Jon and Karen Sayler of Sandpoint Idaho; The Rev. James and JoLynn Amend of Kennewick; and Robert and Janet Bartlett of Granite Bay Calif.
They have 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
