* 1987 -- Columbia-Burbank pitchers Jeremy Smith and Joe Carrasco were selected to the Yakima Valley A East baseball all-league first team, along with Coyotes infielder Dane Idler and outfielder Tyler Harlan.

* 1982 -- Jill Swain, Niki Riker and Heather Verhey each hit home runs in the championship game to lead Royal to a 15-7 win over North Mason and the Class A state crown -- the first ever for the Knights, who defeated Quincy 17-11 to reach the finals.

* 1975 -- Richland's Pat Hoke, a junior at Boise State University, was named most valuable basketball player of the year for the Broncos.

* 1964 -- Mike Fowler hurled a three-hitter and struck out 10 as he pitched Seattle First National to a 7-0 victory over United Finance in a Tri-City Colt League game.
