It's coming up on the Dust Devils 2011 season, so it's time to start getting excited about the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, which begins June 6 in Secaucus, N.J. The Colorado Rockies the Dust Devils' parent club has the 20th pick this year.
The Mariners, by the way, hold the No. 2 overall pick in the draft behind the Pirates at No. 1. The first two picks off the board should be Rice third baseman Anthony Rendon and UCLA pitcher Gerrit Cole. The M's reportedly would be happy with either (read Larry Stone's article on the options here)
But we can't forget former Dust Devils who have moved up the ladder, either. I just found out that Juan Nicasio, the Dust Devils' opening-day starter in 2008, will make his major league debut Saturday night against the St. Louis Cardinals. Here's a nice report on Nicasio from CBSsports.com.
Best of luck to Juan!
