The Kamiakin Braves' state title dreams ended today at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma.

The Braves lost 3-2 to the Mount Si Wildcats in the 3A state baseball semifinals. Jon Allen tried to score the tying run on Joey Jansen's fly ball to left field, but he was called out after a collision at the plate knocked the ball loose from the catcher.

High school rules prohibit any contact by base runners with the catcher. Kamiakin coach Ryan Carter said the umpire got the call right.

"The base runner has to try to avoid that. That's the rule. You can't have contact with the catcher."

Garrett Anderson started for the Braves and threw a complete game, giving up just four hits and striking out nine. However, one of those hits was a two-run home run in the first inning by Tim Proudfoot, his ninth of the season.

Allen finished 2-for-3 with a double for the Braves. Justin Berneski also doubled in a run for Kamiakin, which plays Camas for third place at 10 a.m.

Mount Si will play Shorewood in the championship.
