* 1958 -- The Tri-City Braves split a Northwest League twinbill with the Lewiston Broncos, losing the first game 8-1, while taking the nightcap 9-1. Len Lindborg hit his ninth home run of the season for the Braves.

* 1976 -- Because of financial constraints, Yakima Valley Community College made the decision to drop wrestling, track and field and cross country from its men's sports program.

* 1984 -- Kamiakin's Kim Phillips set a school record in winning the state AAA javelin title with a throw of 142-7 -- more than 10 feet better than the second-place finisher. Also, Pasco's 4x100 relay team of Ed Jackson, Nathan Hill, Jamie Townsend and Tim Sullivan finished second in a time of 42.7 seconds.
