* 2004 -- Hanford's Melissa Guthrie won the 100, 200, anchored the winning 4x100 relay team, and anchored the second-place 4x200 team at the 3A Eastern Regionals track meet in Yakima.

* 1949 -- Duane Grover, 14, Pasco, was the winner of the Tenth district marble tournament sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Sylvester Park in Pasco. Grover won four out of six rings to cop the tourney and will advance to the state meet, scheduled June 11 in Seattle. Nathan Turner, 12, of Kennewick, was third, losing out to Fred Hudson of Pullman.

* 1949: LeRoy Spitzer, Kennewick tennis ace, captured the Yakima Valley boys singles championship in Pasco.
