Bomber baseball wins 5th straight district title

WALLA WALLA -- Jarrod Turner hit a two-run home run, and Connor Moore had a double, triple and two RBIs to lead Richland to a 13-5 victory Saturday over Moses Lake and the Bombers' fifth consecutive CBBN district title.

"The kids played well," said Bombers coach Ben Jacobs. "We really stepped up to the ocassion. I'm proud of them."

Richland will play host to one half of a sub-regional Tuesday.

In the opening game, CBBN No. 3 Moses Lake will play Greater Spokane League No. 2 Mead in a loser-out game. The Bombers will play the winner.

In the other half of the sub-regional, CBBN No. 2 Walla Walla will play GSL No. 3 Gonzaga Prep at 1 p.m. in a loser-out game. The winner will play Ferris.

Against Moses Lake, the Bombers scored two in the first inning before exploding for nine in the third, including four extra-base hits. Turner hit his home run in the sixth.

"We started playing small ball in the first," Jacobs said. "We laid down a couple of bunts, they had an error and we scored a run. In the second, we had six hits."

Kenton Brunson added a double, two runs and two RBIs for the Bombers, while Zach Rapacz had a triple, an RBI and scored twice.

Walla Walla sweeps Davis, Moses Lake

Wa-Hi survived a loser-out contest against Davis, 5-4, and beat Moses Lake 11-8 in a battle for the No. 2 seed to sub-regionals.

Jake Jimenez had two RBIs and Drew Christina scattered four hits and struck out six over the distance against the Pirates. Moe Handcox had two doubles and a triple on a 4-for-4 performance at the plate against the Chiefs.
